WWF expert urges reduced meat consumption

On Tuesday 1 November I attended the excellent Visioning Food After Brexit event in East Oxford. Duncan Williamson from the World Wildlife Fund presented his six main recommendations for a better food future. Two of these were to “Eat More Plants” and “Moderate Your Meat Consumption, Both Red & White”. There was a clear agreement from the chairman (Paul Jepson) and the other three panellists at the meeting (Colin Tudge, Julian Cottee, and Peter Scarborough) that meat is a major problem. Duncan Williamson highlighted the fact that there are at least twelve different UK government departments that deal with food, with “no joined up thinking between any of them”. He suggested that creating a dedicated ‘Ministry for Food’ would be a good starting point.
